Habitat: West Africa, Jamaica Feature: It is the national fruit of Jamaica. When the outer red-orange rind ripens, it splits open naturally, revealing bright yellow fleshy parts and glossy black seeds. Only the inner yellow flesh of the fruit can be consumed (by boiling); it is poisonous if eaten raw. When cooked, its texture and taste somewhat resemble eggs (especially scrambled eggs).
